Gas exchange isn't necessary until after the jar is colonized. Liquid cultures are illegal, no? I think spores are my only option. Pup Tentacle You are precisely as big as what you love and precisely as small as what you allow to annoy you. I have tried to make LC's in the past and had no luck. I've only tried a few times, but after the first grow, spore prints were abundant and I felt like grain and multi-spore injections were easier.
Would anyone care to share a recipe they have used with success? Be an adult only when necessary. For LC make sure you use a sugar that does not caramelize. For gas exchange I always used several layers of protection - you want the jar to be able to breathe but you don't want dirt or bacterias etc. I used tyvek envelopes cut up to fit below the lid of my jars as the first and most fine-layer. In the lid there would be at least one hole filled with polyfill through which you can inject or use a self-healing injection port made of silicone I've used bathroom silicone and it worked just fine for one round of PC, the second time I'd use it it would start to deteriorate, so renew every time you re-use the jar.
Over the lid I put a coffee filter to keep out dust and stuff falling onto it. It's a bit overkill, but I'm rather safe than sorry with this kind of stuff. RR says tyvek should be on the outside of the metal lid using two piece lids of mason jars but I've had good results with one-piece lids and putting the tyvek on the inside and the polyfill etc. Hope you have fun with your grows! That's good, there's a beer brewing store just down the street from me! I think my problem is I have been trying with corn syrup.
I think I'll also rig up my own stir plate, too. Thanks for the good advice and links, Enoon! Normal Threaded. The Nexian. WBS failure Trying again soon. Posts: Joined: Jul Last visit: Oct There are teks out there that advise growing mycelium in fully closed jars without any gas exchange mechanism, and it seems to work I am actually in the middle of an experiment with this What I was thinking about was the light from the lamp.
Also - are you sure about the content of your syringes? Do they come from a reliable source? They Cubensis, right? This shouldn't matter I routinely colonize jars out in the open. Even light from a full spectrum CMH bulb does not impede colonization to any meaningful degree. This has also been observed by reliable individuals on several mycology boards. Depending on the type of pressure cooker used, pressure cooking jars for hours on end could have dried out the spawn.
Good to know - thanks for the info. Yes, several hours seems to be unnecessary. Parshvik Chintan. Pup Tentacle. You can make your own liquid culture s with those spores Pup Tentacle You are precisely as big as what you love and precisely as small as what you allow to annoy you. But with a lc the full jars should colonize much quicker to worry about them stalling like that.
I looked up LC at one point but never tried it, have you had experience making it? No heating pad, temps should have been fairly constant, substrate might have been too wet. Friend had used spores before and gotten great mushies so spores should have been active. BlazedMonkey said:. I have only made my own prints successfully, but will be testing my first lc tomorrow it looks pretty good. But I have been having success with the jars half filled and spores.
They usually get to the amount of growth that the pictured jar has then slow down. Shaking it makes the whole jar clolonize fast because you move the mycelium everywhere, you can't do that with the full jar. Lids were poked with one hole and filled with polyfill. Mycellium is about the size of a dime-nickel maybe one a quarter. I would say that your substrate isnt suitable for the spores to germinate in for some reason.
I can write up a pretty good guide for you. I am no expert on WBS jars but its a lot harder to control moisture content etc when youre dealing with kernels of some sort. Many people say nah you can do it but it takes a good chef to cook a steak. Stuff will fuck up, this is mycology for amateurs. Penhed here at myco tek is one of the best bulk growers around, he has tons of experience and he got Nojoy of the shelf However Id say its best to try the PF TEK for now since you failed 10 or so times.
Its not that your bad or anything, this happens.
