Buffy how does angel return

Angel : Hmm? User reviews 16 Review. Top review. One of the best episodes of the first season. We learn about the mysterious Angel in this tightly scripted episode. The extent of Buffy's feelings for him is also revealed. Comedic relief is provided by the vain Cordelia and Darla had some great lines, too. After a couple of episodes that filled out the other main characters but did not much further the plot, this episode moves along swiftly while providing the backstory to one of the most popular characters on the show.

For me, three episodes really stood out in the first season: the series premiere, which grabbed my attention with the first scene; this episode, which provided the first major twist in what would become a main character; and the season finale, which as is the norm in the story does not disappoint.

Even though Buffy and Angel were still taking place in the same universe, it became a huge headache to negotiate between the rival networks about which actors could appear on what series. Angel and Buffy would only crossover when it was deemed "necessary.

Angel relied on Buffy a little heavily in the early offing. Without her, Angel developed its own identity, independent of the slayer. At the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 5, Buffy passes awat. This reunion happens off-camera, on both series. Also, the story isn't even considered actual canon. There were two great loves for Buffy and both were vampires.

The debate of who was better for Buffy continues to rage. Even though Buffy inexplicably decided that she was in love with Riley right after they broke up, no one counts Riley as a serious love interest.

In the comics, that extended the story of Buffy and Angel outside the TV shows, Buffy has had several serious and meaningful relationships.

Buffy had a brief fling with another slayer, named Satsu. Satsu was one of the Slayers activated by Willow in the Buffy season 7 finale. The more surprising comic relationship is the one that was never consummated.

Buffy began to develop very serious feelings for her best friend, Xander. They will never stop caring for each other but affection does not necessarily mean that they work well together. The first real relationship that Angel had was with his vampire sire, and eventual mother of his child, Darla. Darla turned Angel into a vampire and they reigned destruction for centuries. Darla passed away early in Buffy season 1. Yet she was brought back for Angel and their twisted love affair sprouted anew, especially since Darla returned to life as a human not a vampire.

In many ways, the angst between Darla and Angel puts all the melodrama between Buffy and Angel to shame. The interview was done in conjunction with Darla being reintroduced into Angel. When Angel and viewers next saw Buffy though, it was during one of the very last episodes of Angel.

Angel receives word that Buffy has been ensnared by his longtime rival, The Immortal. Angel goes rushing off to save Buffy, with Spike in tow, only to realize that Buffy is in a relationship with The Immortal.

All that is seen of Buffy is her golden hair bouncing on a dance floor with The Immortal. Angel ultimately lets Buffy go without speaking to her, realizing that he should move on. Buffy, being the leader of a global slayer organization, has created a bunch of decoys for herself.

Buffy, the real Buffy, was never in a relationship with The Immortal. Before Spike went along and got his own soul, Angel was unique. He was the only vampire in history to be cursed with a soul and that curse came with a lot of strings attached. Buffy season 2 reached this moment of perfect happiness by having Angel and Buffy sleep together. From then on, Angel getting to know someone biblically went hand-in-hand with him losing his soul. Instead, it was because Angel experienced a moment of true connection with Buffy.

The moment with Buffy was a once in a lifetime event. It seems like a bit of flimsy retcon but it does work. Angel sleeping someone being linked to him losing him soul always felt very crass and juvenile for Buffy.

Buffy and Angel being on two separate networks did make crossovers, not impossible, but very difficult. When Buffy ended with season 7 and Angel continued with season 5, that was no longer problem. Characters and actors could crossover freely, assuming that the talent was willing.

Cordelia Chase returns to the series and gets Angel back on his mission. Buffy cast member Tom Lenk does pop up as Andrew, so it's still a crossover, if a frustrating one. In the Angel series premiere, the lovesick vamp is missing his slayer ex-boo and makes a phone call to her, but — proving bloodsuckers are just like us — hangs up when Buffy picks up.

Back in Sunnydale, in Buffy 's season 4 premiere, Buffy answers the phone and, puzzled by the silence, hangs up too. We all sobbed. In the seventh episode of Buffy 's fifth season, Buffy asks Spike to recount his killings of previous slayers. During his explanatory flashbacks, the vampire shares details of meeting Drusilla Juliet Landau and also Angel and Darla Julie Benz — meaning we got a nice little Boreanaz guest spot.

She then heads back to Sunnydale to pop up in Buffy episode "Crush. When Buffy season character Harmony Mercedes McNab first appears on the spin-off series, Cordelia has no idea she'd been turned into a vampire during their action-packed Sunnydale High School graduation, in fact she gets her wires crossed and assumes she's gay.

Hey, we can't blame Cordy for wanting some mindless girl time considering her dark day job. Willow Alyson Hannigan also crops up in this episode, when Cordelia calls her to ask why she didn't inform her that Harmony was a lesbian.

In Angel 's fifth season, Angel and Spike try to help a recently-activated slayer who has been pushed to the breaking point by an abusive past. Meanwhile, off-screen — since Buffy has ended by this point — Giles Anthony Stewart Head sends his "best man" Andrew to retrieve the new slayer so he and the Scooby Gang can give her the care she needs. Much to Angel's dismay, it's implied that Buffy and co.

In the season 2 finale of Angel, the Angel Investigations team arrives back to the hotel to find a grief-stricken Willow sitting waiting for them with some bad news: Buffy is dead. Though we don't see her communicate the news on screen, Buffy fans — having just watched the slayer leap to her death on the parent show — knew the devastating blow Angel was about to receive.

A few episodes of Angel later, the titular vamp is brooding in the garden, when Cordelia comes running out to tell him Buffy is alive again. Angel heads off to meet her immediately as Buffy leaves Sunnydale in season 6 episode "Flooded" to make her way to him too.

Heartbreakingly, we never see the reunion as it all takes place off screen. In a string of episodes from Angel 's fourth season, vampire slayer Faith Eliza Dushku — who first appeared on Buffy 's third season — is convinced by Wesley Alexis Denisof to break out of prison to help them contain Angelus so they can en-soul him once again.

In a minor crossover, after hearing there's a slayer in town, Angel calls Buffy's house confirming she's still in Sunnydale. Later, Willow is brought in to perform the spell to curse Angel once again — and enjoy a mini reunion with Cordelia and Wesley while she's at it. The season 5 premiere of Angel welcomes Buffy regular Spike into the fold when he's resurrected after literally going out in a blaze of glory in the Buffy series finale.

And so ensues a season of squabbling between the two vamps with souls who fell for the same slayer.
