Why is scars mane black

Those same dark-maned males feature more testosterone and can heal up quicker after big fights. Rather than the outcast Scar is made out to be, his black mane would be an important indicator of fitness and very sexy to lionesses! The act of leaving is dead right, but it would not have been voluntary.

Adult lions cannot stand the presence of young and upcoming males in their areas, although they will tolerate young cubs to a degree. When males are between two and a half and about four, they are forcibly evicted by their fathers, uncles and other pride members. I recently saw one of my favorite Ugandan lions, a 3-year-old male called Jacob pictured below , get swatted around by a coalition of three massive mature males.

Jacob immediately submitted, laying on his back and cowering. They can cross electrified fences into new reserves, move across cattle farms and even international borders. Of course, if he did return, it would be to mate with as many lionesses as he could, many of whom — if not all — would be closely related to him. While I personally revel in the opportunity to study lion society in its totality, even the fights and hardships, I can understand why Disney chose to skim over some of these aspects of lion life in favor of fantasy.

Seeing that the film was partially inspired by Hamlet, it would make sense to cast an actor with Shakespearean vibes. Aside from Irons, two other names were thrown in the ring. Malcolm McDowell and Tim Curry were considered for the role, but after seeing his test footage, Irons was swayed to be Scar and the rest is history.

Alright, we've talked about scars internal inspirations, we've talked about his physical appearance taking a cue from his voice actor, but what about his design? It should come as no surprise that the twisted lion has a very distinct and stylish look. He's cunning, and his air of maliciousness is more subtle than most. You can thank animator Andreas Deja for that.

Deja is not only responsible for Scar, but for Gaston from Beauty and the Beast and most famously Jafar from Aladdin as well. Looking on this trio of Deja's characters, you can easily see the shared elements between them. From their color composition to their smooth and suave demeanor, sometimes it's good to be bad.

In some original drafts of the story, Scar went from being a rabid alpha male baboon to a rogue lion who murdered Mufasa for dominance. The rogue storyline was deemed too dark for the final project, but the filmmakers didn't exactly choose a lighter alternative. To create more humanistic drama, they turned Mufasa and Scar into brothers. Originally, Scar, a deformed and burly rogue lion, would have torn Mufasa to shreds and asserted his dominance over the Pridelands, with help from his baboon henchmen of course.

The family relationship was introduced to heighten the tension, and show that even those we know and trust can have a twisted agenda. Perhaps the most beloved Disney stage adaptation of all time, The Lion King has been running for decades in New York and in several touring productions. Scar, of course, is one of the lead roles but his stage persona is very different from his movie counterpart. It takes some serious acting chops to bring Scar to life in an absolutely wild production.

So it makes sense that Scar is more vibrant, dramatic, and even a touch comic than he is in the film. Not that we're complaining. When Nala appears at Timon and Pumbaa's oasis, she mentions to Simba she left looking for help, but that wasn't always the case.

In a deleted scene, it is shown that Scar banished Nala after she rejected his advances on her to become his queen. Remember, highly successful Disney film, here. Not only is the scene toeing the line of PG material, but Irons reading of the storyboarded scenes is spine-tinglingly unsettling. His reprisal of "Be Prepared" is a sinister seduction attempt that really freaks us out. It ended up being changed for the broadway show as "The Madness of King Scar.

If we could jump back to the Broadway show for just a moment or two, we have to talk about the two sequences written especially for scar based upon the rejected songs previously mentioned.

Scar has a black mane because in real life lions who are stronger have a darker mane. Scar has more power than Mufasa because he defeated Mufasa. CrazywolfXYT posted over a year ago.

That's what makes Scar's colors to be like that:Ahadi's black mane and Uru's dark, outlanderish appearance and colors. MarlenaLovett said: When they were first writing the movie, Scar was never going to related to Mufasa. He was going to be a rouge lion. They changed this, obviously, but kept the drawings. So instead they said that Mufasa's and Scar's father had black mane in the story books.

Genetically then it would be possible to have one son with black mane and the other with red. Disney did not write those storybooks. Alex Simmons did. Vitalani posted over a year ago. Theres alot of info on this but here are a few good links Mane color is just like eye colour or any other looks feature that is inherited generation to generation, more or less randomly.

Unfortunately, I can't remember where I heard that from, so I can't confirm if it's from a reliable source.

But if it is, that might be why they look so different; their character designs may have been finalized before it was decided that they'd be brothers.

Like I said, I don't know if this information is true, but if it is then that's my theory for now. Of course, a biological reason could simply be because of how their parents looked, for all we know. Maybe Mufasa mostly took after one parent while Scar mostly took after the other. That'd be biologically possible. Also, is it ever mentioned that they both had the same parents? I don't recall. Maybe they were only half brothers, for all we know.
