When the camp was forced to take sides over whom to follow—Jack or Locke —Danielle chose to join Locke's side. Danielle, along with the rest of Locke's group, encountered Charlotte Lewis , a member of freighters who had just parachuted onto the island. Ben tried to kill her, and in response Locke threatened to kill Ben. Danielle tried to shield a protestant Alex from her adoptive father's impending death, but Locke spared his life anyway. Danielle, Alex and Karl come under attack.
Danielle continued to aid Locke in his efforts to remain on the island, including helping him capture Sayid. While taking Sayid to a holding room, she told him that holding him captive in the rec room was nothing personal.
Claire said she also saw her taking Ben into Locke's basement at the Barracks. Alex crouches down behind a tree after Karl and Danielle have been shot. Rousseau was present at Locke's meeting where, after Ben's release, he implored Alex , along with Danielle and Karl , to flee the Barracks and head for the Temple , as he was certain Alex will be killed if they remain.
Danielle seemed somewhat suspicious of Ben's plan, but after some thought, agreed with Ben's assessment. She assured Alex they had to go. While traveling to the "sanctuary," they took a break.
Rousseau began to suspect someone was approaching just before Karl was shot. Danielle told Alex, who was crying over Karl's body, that they needed to run, and that he was "gone. Danielle is discovered by Miles in her shallow grave. After Rousseau and Karl were both shot, the mercenaries who attacked them lead Alex back to the Barracks, in the hope of using her to lure Ben out of hiding.
While Keamy stood with a gun pointed at Alex, communicating with Ben via walkie as he watched through a window, Alex told her father, "They're serious, they killed Karl and my mother.
He recalled the story of how she isn't his daughter, and how he "stole her as a baby from an insane woman. Rousseau's fate, however, remained unknown until Sawyer , Claire and Miles were trekking back from the Barracks to the beach camp and they passed the clearing where Rousseau and Karl were shot. Miles began hearing screams and echoes and mysteriously asked who Danielle and Karl were. Rousseau is the 20th candidate. He then proceeded to dig two holes in the ground, revealing Karl and Danielle's dead bodies buried in their shallow graves.
The Others discounted there being any left. As it was revealed later, the traps were left by Claire. In the flash sideways world , Rousseau lived in Los Angeles alongside her daughter Alex. She mentions that Alex's father presumably still Robert died when Alex was 2, although his cause of death in this world is unknown. After Ben Alex's European History teacher in this world was attacked by Desmond , Alex insisted that he not drive home because of his injuries.
She offered a ride home courtesy of her mother, Danielle. Alex then asked her if Ben could stay over for dinner, to which Danielle accepted joyfully.
After dinner, Danielle told Ben that Alex thought of Ben as a father figure due to their very cordial relationship at school. It was implied that she and Ben were attracted to each other. The older Rousseau, as played by Croatian actress Mira Furlan , spoke with a strange French accent, and at times speaks French poorly.
A native French speaker would never make such an error. This was not a mistake that a native-speaker, and especially a trained scientist like Rousseau, would make. The voice heard on the distress signal was that of a native French speaker and was not Mira Furlan 's. However, since the characters who heard both the radio transmission and Rousseau Sayid , Sawyer , Shannon and Hurley didn't seem to be intrigued by this detail, it may be considered irrelevant.
The voice on the transmission appeared on the show before Furlan actually appeared, so it was likely a production error. However, it would be a fair assumption that her voice would change somewhat in the 16 years since the transmission was recorded.
When Rousseau first arrived on the Island, she was depicted as a caring and compassionate woman, evident in her treating the wounded Jin despite her team's distrust of him. However, due to the circumstances that befell her following her arrival on the Island, namely shooting her lover, losing her week-old-daughter and spending the next sixteen years in isolation, her demeanor and attitude changed dramatically.
She became distrustful of any foreign party Sayid , the Kahana crew and stayed alive by avoiding them. Her only drive and ambition was to recover her daughter, Alexandra Rousseau , but she later confessed that she was apprehensive about meeting a daughter she had never known. When Rousseau finally reunited with Alex, she was protective of her, deciding to take her to the Temple at Ben's request so that she could be safe. Rousseau's last words to her daughter were that she loved her, and ultimately, Rousseau died for her.
In the flash-sideways timeline, Rousseau was once again the kind and caring woman she was when she arrived on the Island.
Having raised Alex from birth, she was no longer obsessed with reuniting with her, and was thus no longer disturbed or insane. Lostpedia Explore. Explore Wikis Community Central. Register Don't have an account?
Jack Shephard and Sayid eventually found Rousseau's shelter, but it was booby-trapped to explode and, after the dust settled, they discovered it had been emptied beforehand. She knew Sayid would return to her shelter and rigged it to explode. Hurley eventually ran into Rousseau and she gave some more information to him about what happened to her and the numbers, and then gave him one of her batteries. Rousseau later came to the survivor's beach camp to warn them that the Others were coming.
She told them the story of the black smoke and her daughter's kidnapping. Shortly thereafter, the survivors noticed a pillar of black smoke. Jack took her to see the hatch that Locke discovered, but she hadn't seen anything like it before. She led an expedition to the Black Rock in the Dark Territory so that the survivors could get dynamite to blow open the hatch. On the journey there, the monster appeared but Rousseau simply referred to it as a security system that protects the island.
Upon reaching the Black Rock , Rousseau promptly left. Returning to the beach camp, Rousseau went to see Claire's son and Claire noticed the scratches on Rousseau's arm. Remembering that she was the one who caused the scratches, Claire was knocked unconscious and Rousseau kidnapped Claire's son in the hope of trading him for Alex.
When she arrived at the beach where the black smoke originated, she discovered it completely empty. Confused, she gave the baby back to Sayid and Charlie Pace , telling them that she heard the Others whispering about coming for the boy. Unbeknownst to her, the Others were in fact coming for a boy - Walt Lloyd. Sayid and Charlie left her there, broken and crying. Rousseau was spotted in the jungle by Ana-Lucia Cortez , who went and found Sayid.
Sayid recognized her and confronted her on his own. Rousseau asked Sayid to come with her so she could show him something important. When he was reluctant to trust her, she gave him her rifle. Rousseau had captured someone in a net. Danielle did not believe his story and was adament that he was an Other. Sayid cut him out of the tree, despite Rousseau's protests, and he tried to escape, but Rousseau shot him in the shoulder with a hidden crossbow.
She warned Sayid not to believe any of his lies, and told him to take the prisoner to their doctor. She disappeared back into the jungle, taking her rifle with her. When Claire's baby was feverish and crying, Rousseau showed up on the beach. She was afraid that Aaron had contracted the "sickness" that came over her science team. Kate Austen shooed her away, but the next day Kate and Claire sought her out, hoping to find the place Claire was kept by the Others.
Rousseau found them in the jungle and, after Claire mentioned seeing a teenage girl in the place she was kept, Rousseau lead them to the place where Claire scratched her, and from there Claire was able to find her way to the Staff. Alex pleads with Locke not to kill Ben. Ben gave Alex a map led to the Temple. While en route , Alex, Danielle, and Karl were ambushed by mercenaries from the freighter, including Martin Keamy.
Karl and Danielle were killed, and Alex stood up with her hands above her head and yelled repeatedly " I'm Ben's daughter!
Alex is held at gunpoint, moments before being shot. After her surrender, Alex was taken prisoner. The mercenaries brought her to the sonar fence where she was forced, with a gun to her head, to punch in the code.
She begged them not to hurt the survivors, as a baby was with them. Later, Alex was brought back to the Barracks as a hostage to smoke Ben out of hiding.
Keamy sent a walkie-talkie into Ben's house with Miles , and when Ben found out Alex was the hostage, he agreed to go to the window and speak with Keamy. Alex told Ben that the mercenaries had killed Karl and Danielle, and she begged him to save her.
After a standoff, during which Ben - choosing the Island over his own daughter - stated she meant nothing to him, Keamy mercilessly shot her dead and walked away. Ben, shocked with her death, unleashed the Monster to attack the mercenaries. As the attack commenced, Ben spent a few final moments with his daughter, showing that she was the one thing he really cared about.
Widmore denied this, instead, blaming Ben. Ben stated that he would kill Widmore's daughter, Penelope Widmore , in retribution to make Widmore sorry that he "changed the rules ".
In , while Ben was being judged by the Monster underneath the Temple, a more sinister version of Alex appeared to Ben in a fashion similar to Yemi. Ben apologized to her, and she responded by grabbing his throat and telling him to listen to every word " Locke " speaks, or else she would find him and "destroy" him. This was later revealed to be the Man in Black in the form of Alex. Ben later confessed to Ilana that he can never forgive himself for choosing the Island over his daughter and that he was sorry for killing Jacob , who was a father figure for Ilana.
Linus ". When Ben, Richard, and Miles returned to the Barracks in order to collect C-4 to destroy the Ajira plane, Miles sensed something at her burial site, but wouldn't say what it was. Richard told Ben that it was Alex, who he had buried after he left. Emotional, Ben thanks him. Alex talking to Dr. One evening Alex stopped by the house of Dr. Benjamin Linus , a European history teacher at her school after he failed to show up at the after-school History Club.
She told him that she was hoping he could help her study for the AP History exam, and he offered to privately tutor her at the high school library the following morning. At the library, Alex told Dr. Linus that she desperately wanted to get into Yale University , and he offered to write a letter of recommendation for her. Alex explained that she needed Principal Reynolds to write it because he was a Yale alumnus. She then shared a secret with Dr. Linus about the principal, asking him not to share it.
Alex's secret was that she once heard the school nurse and the principal having sex on the school grounds. Some time later, Alex encountered Dr. Linus and told him that the principal wrote her a glowing recommendation for Yale.
The two of them both saw Principal Reynolds at that moment, and Alex thanked him for his letter. After Ben was attacked by Desmond, Alex saw his injuries and, concerned, offered him a lift home with her mother, Danielle Rousseau. She then asked her mother if Ben could stay over for dinner. Rousseau is a recurring on-island character who has appeared in nineteen episodes in seasons one through four, as well as one episode where her voice alone is heard, and her final episode in the sixth season.
The character, who is commonly known as "The French Woman" among the survivors on the island, is introduced early in the first season. Sixteen years prior to the plane crash, Rousseau was a member of a French research vessel, whose ship ran aground on the island. Two months after being stranded, Rousseau gave birth to her daughter Alex Tania Raymonde ; however, Alex was taken by the island's original inhabitants, a group which Rousseau called the "Others".
Rousseau's primary objective is to reunite with her daughter, which is achieved in the season three finale "Through the Looking Glass". The reunion is short-lived; Rousseau is shot and killed by a band of mercenaries in the middle of the fourth season. The writers wrote Rousseau out of the series upon request by Furlan, who did not wish to travel to Hawaii to film her scenes, although she later called this an untrue rumor.
The producers planned for Rousseau to get her own flashback episode in season four; however, this was delayed due to the — Writers Guild of America strike. The writers stated that Rousseau would be in the fifth season, and her story would be told, but to say that it would be told through a flashback would be "disingenuous". In the fifth season of Lost, a younger version of Rousseau is shown. Critical reaction to the character has been generally positive; however, many have expressed disappointment in the execution of Rousseau's death scene.
