However, building a large-scale water purifier capable of processing the basin and filtering out the pervasive radiation proved challenging.
Small-scale tests yielded consistent successes, but James and his team were unable to scale it up to the desired output. However, the situation was salvaged by a contingent of Brotherhood of Steel soldiers established as a permanent garrison [4] at the memorial around December , thanks to James' negotiations with newly-promoted Elder Owyn Lyons. Sentry guns maintained by the soldiers were essential to maintaining a safe perimeter. Madison Li was not fond of the military presence and refused to trust the Brotherhood.
The situation was further improved by Catherine's pregnancy. She refused to slow down or reduce her workload, inspiring other members of the project to continue their work. The team quickly discovered a purification method that was horribly inefficient, but worked, as opposed to most they've tried before.
The lack of concrete results, coupled with mounting losses to the super mutant attacks, two dead soldiers and three more injured was a regular weekly tally at this point, strained the team's relations with the Brotherhood. James completely withdrew from the project, deciding to abandon it entirely and flee with his child to the safety of Vault , while super mutant attacks escalated to the point that the Brotherhood was fighting off several attacks each day. The facilities were completely abandoned and left to the elements for the next nineteen years.
James continued to tinker with the principles of Project Purity after he was accepted into Vault as its resident physician. His nightly routine included sneaking into restricted areas and poring over records, looking for a way to make his dream happen.
During one semi-drunk excursion, he found records mentioning Stanislaus Braun and the Garden of Eden Creation Kit , which was the missing element of his puzzle.
After his child reached adulthood, James decided on a last ditch attempt to achieve the goals of Project Purity. He escaped Vault , causing a brutal crackdown by the overseer and his security force that forced his child to abandon Vault as well. He first visited the derelict facility, [13] rigging several fusion generators to activate emergency lighting and basic systems.
Then he departed for Rivet City, to ask Li for help in powering the mainframe up and restarting the project. The Lone Wanderer followed in their father's footsteps, clearing the memorial, rescuing James, and aiding him in convincing Li to give the Project another chance. However, as the facility was brought back online and the team prepared to restart their work, the Enclave under Colonel Augustus Autumn deployed to the memorial in force.
After subduing the team, Colonel Autumn confronted James and demanded that he turn over the facility to the Enclave, together with all existing documentation, and aid Enclave scientists in bringing it online.
Defiant, James refused, which cost Janice Kaplinski her life. Afterwards, he pretended to comply, only to disable the radiation shielding and flooding the control chamber with lethal levels of radiation. Colonel Autumn survived, James did not, while the rest of the team safely made it to the Citadel through the Taft Tunnel.
The Enclave set up a defensive perimeter around the purifier using forcefield generators and focused on repairing the purifier, waiting for the Lone Wanderer to clear the way into Vault 87 and procure the GECK. The desperate plan worked, with Prime carving a swathe through the defensive lines around the memorial and scattering the rallying Enclave units, allowing the Lone Wanderer and Sarah Lyons to infiltrate the purifier, confront Autumn and activate it before it exploded.
With the purifier online and performing as expected, the Brotherhood received a powerful economic asset. However, Elder Lyons made the decision to provide water to all major settlements in the wasteland, completely free of charge. So hard in fact, that it forced Scribe Bigsley , the man in charge of the entire venture, to go against his orders and sell water, in order to actually be able to accomplish what he's been ordered to do.

Register Don't have an account? Project Purity. View source. History Talk No radiation , no muck, just clear water. The plan was to build a facility that could purify all the water in the Tidal Basin at once. No radiation, no muck, just clean water. What does that mean? There were many of us, including your mother, who devoted our lives to it. The idea of free, clean water for everyone drove us to succeed. So many sacrifices were made for that idea. My responsibility is to see it through to the end, to make sure those sacrifices mean something.
Remember the Bible passage your mother loved so much? Stand strong and get your ass in there! My superior construction and programming will outlast your frail human form in that hostile environment. It'll be a battlefield commendation for sure. Cycle that airlock, soldier, and we'll put an end to this. I saved your sorry ass enough.
This one's all you. Right there? With all the radiation? Man, no way. I'll end up dead. Or worse. I could be one of them ghouls! Ain't gonna happen. It has been my pleasure accompanying you, but we both know this is your fight to finish. Stay strong, and honor your father's memory. Find yourself another guinea pig. Do your own dirty work.
PC Xbox Liberty Prime may not appear at all during the battle, simply disappearing from the bailey of the Citadel. This can make the battle against the Enclave extremely difficult as artillery will still pound the bridge. Liberty Prime may also get stuck by the Enclave's drop ships on the bridge. Firing a few mini nukes from the Fat Man at the drop ships will clear the road so Liberty Prime can resume its path. Fast traveling to another location and back may also dislodge Liberty Prime, allowing him to continue.
Teleporting Liberty Prime to the player can also do the trick. Charon will simply stop and follow the player once again if the player walks too far away, but there is no known way to get the Lyons' Pride to continue.
If this happens, reload an earlier save and he should start to move. If you can't, just go in contact with the energy barrier and use the console command "fd25". This will trigger the robot's ability and the quest will continue normally.
It could be caused by moving too far away from the Pride. If this still isn't fixed after restarting Fallout 3 , use the console command "1d44f". This may solve the problem. It can also be solved by quick-saving on the PC in the Rotunda and then quick-loading. It is possible the Lyons' Pride cannot be assembled if Paladin Vargas was killed earlier in the game. If so, his body will be in front of the Citadel entrance; you will need to carry him over to Prime's feet to get him to initiate his attack.
Or if you can't find the body then use the console Command player. He won't be able to find the player, but will follow the shots, and can be led to the first barrier. From there he should continue on as normal. This will make it impossible for the player to activate Project Purity. This glitch can be fixed if one downloads the V1. This glitch can also be fixed by clearing the Fallout 3 cache separate to the system cache , when you click "play game" keep hold of the left bumper, right bumper and X until the "Press Start" text appears, after loading the game this should be fixed.
Another way is by making a save when Sarah closes the chamber door possible if you haven't yet installed Broken Steel ; if you have then delete it from the hard drive.
Now after you have saved the game you install Broken Steel. Playstation 3 If the player continuously walks into Lyons it is possible to trap her inside the Purifier.
If you push her in far enough and shoot her until she turns aggressive and then push the airlock button she will run out as it's closing and run down the stairs. The game then freezes for a few seconds and the screen turns white with the radiation bar still showing. This could force you to restart your console. If experiencing this kind of problem, save the game when bugs are starting and then reloading it right after may resolve it.
If you kill it, then either continue or go away from fast travel, Liberty Prime may find Hannibal, Caleb, and the rest of them hostile and kill them. You will get the message saying "Hannibal and Caleb have died" and fail the quest. If you close the door, she will wake up non-hostile, and you can talk to her and tell her to turn it on, or you will do it.
PC players may reacquire companions by using the console command player. On any platform, players can leave the Capital Wasteland via The Pitt or Point Lookout , which will result in your companions being fired and returning to their usual spot, where they can be re-hired on return to the Capital Wasteland. If you have Mothership Zeta DLC, it may also be possible to go to Mothership Zeta and have the follower on the ground upon your return but there is no sure way of knowing.
Lastly, if you just wander around the Capital Wasteland long enough, your followers will eventually leave your employ and return to their default locations. Once inside continue inside the Jefferson Memorial and to the Rotunda where you will see Colonel Autumn pacing the room where Dad was killed. Wait until Autumn enters inside the room where you originally will end up putting the G. In which the other door will open and will start the confrontation. If you enter the gift shop from the basement, however, it will appear as it did before Broken Steel.
A number of quests can be skipped at the beginning of Fallout 3 if you follow the river to this location. Between the Waters of Life and Take it Back! Li to reactivate Project Purity. After a short conversation, he asks the player to meet him and the scientists at the Jefferson Memorial. It is highly advised to stock up and prepare for a battle, as well as free up as much inventory space as possible.
Collectible card games. What happens if you start the purifier Fallout 3? Instead, we have to follow the large robot the Brotherhood has been housing and trying to repair for some time as it walks slowly, but surely, towards the Jefferson Memorial from our current location at The Citadel.
But first, simply enjoy the sights, as a robot created by the United States government over two-hundred years ago is activated and deployed.
Head outside to The Bailey to proceed. Run outside of the Citadel completely and connect with the Pride and the robot. The robot will do all of the dirty work here if you let it; just sit far back and watch him completely destroy the Enclave's resistance, though he'll mistake them time and time again, humorously, as Chinese communists.
Remember -- he was programmed before the nuclear war between China and the US, so he thinks the enemy is an external one still. Regardless, stay far behind him as he shoots his powerful lasers and hurls mini-nukes left and right as if they were mere rocks. This guy really knows how to take it to the enemy. Whenever you encounter a barrier, blue in color like the ones in Raven Rock , the robot will take care of it so it and the Pride can proceed.
If the robot seems like he's not moving, move closer to him to try to catalyze its movement, but then retreat far behind it again to dodge being damaged.
As you get closer and closer to the Jefferson Memorial via this overland route, the number of Enclave soldiers will increase, and you may have to help the robot deal with them this will be the last shot you'll get at any meaningful experience, so you might as well take advantage of it while you can. But try to stay out of the fray if at all possible.
Staying far behind will keep the Stimpak use to a minimum heading forward. Once you arrive at the memorial, ignore whatever else is going on outside. What you need to take care of is inside. Enter the Jefferson Memorial, as you have so many times before, via the gift shop entrance on the side near the metallic ramp Enclave soldiers will continue to pour down that ramp, so you need to get in there as quickly as possible.
