In a move that will please a lot of its members, the Etihad Guest program has announced that it will be changing its mileage expiration policy from the end of this month.

Essentially, Eithad Guest miles never expire for Platinum members and everyone else can extend the expiration date of their miles by 18 months by earning, burning, or buying miles. The fact that miles belonging to Silver and Gold members will now expire after a period of 18 months rather than 2.
Bottom Line. From 31 July Etihad Guest miles will no longer expire after a predefined period of time. In their press release last year regarding programme enhancements, Etihad first announced the upcoming change to its miles expiry policy. Terms and conditions related to miles expiry were never changed, and it was as though the whole plan had been quietly forgotten. Good news though is that Etihad Guest members have now been informed by email that the activity-based miles expiry policy is finally coming into force later this month.
That includes earning, spending or buying miles. You can only extend your miles balance once per month and by a maximum period of 18 months. An Etihad Guest seat is a standard award booking. These are fixed-price awards with set benefits and luggage allowance. This type of ticket will usually require the fewest miles to book. Etihad has now made it possible to book any fare using Etihad Guest Miles. The number of miles required is determined by the underlying cash price of the ticket.
Occasionally, this means that there will be tickets available that require fewer miles than a standard Etihad Guest Seat award.
These tickets will also have different refund and change rules as well as different baggage allowances. Check the fare rules carefully to see which option best suits your needs. Tier Miles are calculated on the Guest base miles for a flight. There is a cabin bonus when travelling in Business or First Class. You will need 15 segments to reach Silver, 30 to reach Gold and 48 to reach Platinum. Tier Segments are particularly useful for people who travel frequently but mainly on short or medium-haul flights.
